Naili's Place at Sentul

One step into Naili’s and you’ll be immediately transported to a beach resort, as the bustling sound of traffic outside the venue is melted by soothing music. Even at the main entrance, you will find two jet skis greeting you. As you make your way in, you’ll notice fishing boats, surfboards and palm trees that make up the surrounding, creating the laid back ambience of a seaside chalet at night. It is hard to believe that this place is located in Sentul.

Naili's Place

Owned by two friends, Mr. Norizan and Mr. Jamal, Naili’s was originally a roadside stall selling Nasi Lemak and Ubi Rebus. That was seven years ago. Now it is a full-fledged restaurant, with a seating capacity of 450-500 pax, offering a wide variety of Malay, Chinese and Western dishes. One of the owners, Mr. Jamal, is a self-confessed beach bum and loves the beach scenery so much that he incorporated it in Naili’s furnishing and landscape. As for the food, Naili’s employ experienced cooks and chefs who really know their stuff.

There are a number of things that sets Naili’s apart from other eating places. First, there are many types of seating styles. Customers have the liberty on whether to choose the ala-Japanese seating style on a bamboo floor, or to dine up on one of the two tree houses at the venue.

Diners can also opt for a table overseeing a large, almost life-size ‘sunset on the sea’ backdrop or have an intimate candlelight dinner beside a colourfully lit water fountain surrounded by lush greeneries. Another thing that’s unique here is that the kitchen is situated right after the entrance, open to all curious eyes (and noses).

Apart from the kitchen, there is a fishing boat in front of the cashier from which you can choose fresh fish to be grilled. A few beverage huts are scattered inside the place, where a myriad of ice-blended, cold and hot drinks as well as non-alcoholic cocktails are made.

If you love chicken rendang, then Naili’s simply offers the best in town. Think juicy chicken coated in thick brown gravy with a perfect level of spiciness, to go with Nasi Lemak or white rice.

The divine taste of the rendang is achieved by using a special recipe which includes fresh chillies instead of the more commonly used cili boh, the same one they have used for more than seven years and have propelled Naili’s to become a neighbourhood favourite even when it was still a stall.

Naili's PlaceAnother signature dish here is Ubi Rebus, which is served warm with grazed coconut and sambal, which is also a dish from its Nasi Lemak stall heydays.

The cooks here can also whip up a wicked Cantonese fried ginger Kuay Teow with chicken or beef. Cooked with white sauce, egg and ginger, it is set to fulfil your noodle-slurping craving. Then, there is Naili’s Special fried rice, which is served with a browned-to-perfection chicken wing, a sunny side up, veggies and a generous portion of fish crackers. The taste? Let’s just say that after savouring it, you’ll definitely decide to come back again.

For those experiencing midnight heat, cool your brows with some of the ice-blended drinks available here. Try Rainbow Tree, an icy mixture of kiwi, strawberry and mango, which is sweet, tangy and has a comforting effect. For the ladies, Mermaid might be just the thing. A tall glass fiery-red strawberry soda topped with jelly, ice-cream and whipping cream, what more could you ask for?

All in all, Naili’s is a great place for dinner, supper or simply hanging out for a drink with pals. The ambience is very relaxing, with calming background music to enhance your dining experience, resort-style. Plus, the food here is definitely worth the search for the place and before you know it, you’ll be coming back again and again, like most of their customers.

Ikan Bakar Jalan Istana

Have you ever heard about "Ikan Bakar Jalan Istana"? Those place is the famous venue in KL if you want to find Ikan Bakar (roasted fish). The quality? yes it is, the taste is just like the one you can find at the seafood reataurant at Klang, Umbai, and many more famous places for ikan bakar. But the different is, you dont have to go for holiday or near beach to find those fine quality of Ikan Bakar. Now ready to serve your stomach as near in KL itself.

The location is just behind Istana Negara (Agong house). I you do not know where is Istana Negara, the best way is just take cab and the cab driver know where is Ikan Bakar Jalan Istana. Time serving is from 11am until 10pm in weekdays and 11am till 4pm in saturday. Sunday they're close.

There is about 3 different restaurants that able to serves you Ikan Bakar. Each of the restaurant have different quality and different style of cooking. Which one is the best? I can't say so at this point of time, but from my experience the first restaurant they called it "Wak restaurant" is the best so far. However, the second restaurant seems famous which had been covered by several newspaper, magazine and even TV3 programme called "Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan". The last (at the end of the row) restaurant (Ikan Bakar Ramli) is just simply "extra" where people called it. This is because if you can't find any seat left at first two restaurant than you have to eat at the last restaurant which also serve Ikan Bakar as the main dish.

The pricing is slightly expensive at first two restaurant. The main reason given by the owners is that they are using grade A seafood (fish, prawn, squid, kerang) which collected from Port Klang every morning. Among the seafood available is Ikan Pari, Ikan Terubuk, Ikan Kembong, Ikan Cencaru, Sotong besar, Udang Besar and Kerang.

So if you don't know where to go for lunch or dinner today, just drop by at Ikan Bakar Jalan Istana to try it by yourself. If you are so lucky, you could find some Minister or even celebrity having their dine over there. So let's go now!

Night Feeder of Kuala Lumpur

Ever having the urges to eat at night? But can’t help it and grumbles your way
through the night losing much needed sleep! If you happen to be in Kuala Lumpur you
need not worry because there’s the ‘pasar malam’ the local night market that sells almost
everything cheap! At the ‘pasar malam’ you can find all kinds of food, cooked or raw, fruits, vegetables, clothes, and even toys for your kids.

You can also head towards the ‘warong Mamak’ an Indian Muslim eatery that serves
special kind of soups, the ‘Torpedo Soup’ and the ‘Gearbox Soup’ after hours, the hot
tasty ‘Torpedo Soup’. It’s a local favourite aphrodisiac! The ‘Gearbox Soup’ is made
of cow’s bone marrow and will certainly warm up your blood in the chill Kuala Lumpur
night. There’s also the ‘kopitiam’ a Chinese colonial era type of eatery to cater the
nostalgic taste buds that crave old-fashioned cooking serving Chinese teas even to a shark
fins soup. Entering a ‘kopitiam’ means go inside the 1950 and 1960 era with the jukebox
and the golden oldies memorabilia dominating the interior bringing back the comfort as
you walk the memory lane. You can’t help it but to think of the Beatles as you sip the hot
Chinese teas in the middle of the cold Kuala Lumpur night when the song ‘Ob-La-Di,
Ob-La-Da’ went on playing at the jukebox making your heart filled with wonderful
emotions and stomach full of delicious foods. If are you still hungry you can still go to
the many street hawkers of Kuala Lumpur particularly located in the famous tourist hot
spots the Chinatown or popularly known as the Petaling Street which cater to all sort of
diverse cooking from the Chinese ‘dim-sum’ to the Malay ‘satay’, the street hawkers of
Petaling Street opened till late night warming the chill night with their hot fragrant
cooking sending mouth watering aromas into the air, which will make you just drool over
the good Malaysian foods.

If you’re lucky you might spot a Lion Dance in Petaling Street, a group dance of two or
four people adorn in a dragon suits.

When you finished with Petaling Street you can also go straight to Little India located at
Jalan Masjid India there you’ll find an abundance of spicy Indian cooking like the
chapatti and ‘Tandorri chicken’ that will spice up your cold boring night as you most
probably enjoyed Indian cultures at work like ‘Thaipusam’ , ‘Ponggal’ festival and
‘Deepavali’ when you eat there at the right time and night. So if you happen to be in KL
and in the night don’t be afraid, be adventurous and try all the Malaysian delicacie.

The Best Penang Nasi Kandar

Check out the Best Penang Nasi Kandar in Klang Valley by Klue Magazine, Original Kayu Penang Kayu Nasi Kandar at Klang (Bandar Bukit Tinggi). Nasi Kandar is famous dish from penang and it is also one of the Malaysian Food. Source: Wikipedia, Nasi Kandar is a meal of steamed rice which can be plain or mildly flavored, and served with a variety of curries and side dishes. The picture above shown my plate of Nasi Kandar, i ordered the honey chicken with some curry. The nasi kandar cost RM 6.

Tips for the first timer, you can always tell them not to mix all the curries into your plate. Just like what i did, choose your favorite curry because personally i don't like the mix of all curries) see picture above they many different types of curries to choose from

more dishes that you can choose. The Honey Chicken (if you want to know, it is the one with the black color source. That's the HONEY!!) is one of my colleague recommendation.

The one of the attractions at Kayu, Kayu Channel Digital Signage. Their very own visual channel which provides their customers a glance on the restaurant's menu, their news update (like the one you see in the picture, Selected by Klue Magazine for Best Nasi Kandar in the Klang Valley) and even live news from thestar which i find very interesting and informative.

This is another shot on their Digital Signage channel. A very good marketing technique to get you order more food. Hehe If you read their channel, you will know they actually have a branch in Box Hill, Melbourne Australia. Cool huh? A "Mamak Stall" in Australia. You may check out the website here, http://www.kayu.com.au

Candid Shot from Kayu, "Don't trust your co-worker." When i am eating and taking pictures, the workers there even asked to me to take their picture. This is one of the pictures that i would like to share. Very friendly workers and they never let you sit there unattended.
